Camping season is finally here. Adventuring to the great outdoors is fun, affordable, and great for the whole family—even your dog. Fortunately, many campgrounds and RV parks are Fido friendly, offering amenities such as fenced dog parks and plenty of walking trails. Here are, in our opinion, the best destinations for dog friendly camping. 

4 Paws Kingdom Campground

Rutherfordton, NC

First on our list is 4 Paws Kingdom Campground. Located in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this retreat is the first and only one dedicated to man’s best friend. Fully equipped with an enclosed pond, off-leash dog parks, agility courses, and self-service grooming, there is no shortage of amenities to get your dog’s tail wagging. It’s not all about the dogs though, the campground offers full hook-up RV sites, free WIFI, and cable TV. On top of all the amenities, 4 Paws Kingdom boasts a packed event calendar with loads of fun planned every weekend.  

Donner Memorial State Park

Truckee, CA

Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, Donner Memorial State Park is one of the most dog-friendly camping destinations in California. Whether you’re planning a day on the water, a lakeside picnic lunch, or a hike on Zig Zag Trail, your pup is welcome to join. 

Wakeda Campground

Hampton Falls, NH

Voted “Best of NH†by New Hampshire Magazine reader’s poll in 2019, Wakeda Campground is a secluded escape nestled in the pines only eight miles from Hampton Beach. With an on-site dog park featuring an agility course, fire hydrant, and water feature, furry campers are sure to enjoy all there is to offer.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Disney World, FL

Furry friends are welcome at RV sites and cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Upon arrival, your pooch will receive a Pluto’s Welcome Kit complete with essentials needed for a successful stay. While you’re paling around with Pluto and Goofy, Best Friends Pet Care is available nearby for an additional fee. Off leash play at the Waggin’ Trails Dog Park and numerous dog-friendly walking trails make this a prime destination for the Disney dogs in your life.

Kampgrounds Of America (KOAs)

With nearly 500 locations across North America, Kampgrounds of America is an great dog lover destination wherever you’re located. The majority of sites have Kamp K9 dog parks, and select locations include pet waste stations, fresh water and separate areas for large and small dogs. While KOA rates vary, pets always stay for no additional fee.

Whether you prefer to “ruff†it in a tent, or cozy up in a camper, here are a few things to keep in mind when camping with your canine companion. 

  • Always keep them on a leash when outside your lodging or designated off-leash zones
  • Remember to clean up after them
  • Make sure they are up to date on all vaccinations
  • Know ahead of time where your pets are welcome
